Sean Gerlis (West Nyack, NY) grew up from Nanuet, NY just outside of New York City and attended the New York School for the Deaf, known as “Fanwood” in White Plains, NY. He attended Gallaudet University and then transferred to Rochester Institute of Technology, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology.


With the field of information technology and access, Sean has been involved in the Telecommunications Industry for approximately 14 years to provide communication access for Deaf. Previously, he was the director of National Operations & Marketing Communications of Snap Telecommunications, which was based in Pearl River, NY. During  post Hurricane Sandy disaster, Sean worked with Federal Emergency Management Agency as Disability Integration Advisor / Community Liaison dealing with survivors in New York City. As of this moment, Sean is working with VirtualShed, a telecommunication start-up company specializing in providing communication solutions.


In addition, Sean’s lifelong passion for advocacy and community service which currently he serves as Vice President and Education Advocacy in Empire State Association of Deaf (New York), Treasurer in New York City Metro Registry of Interpreting for the Deaf Chapter, along with chairing National Association of Deaf’s Accountability Committee. Also, he presides Deaf & Hard of Hearing Kaleidoscope, which coordinates Deaf Awareness Week in New York City. He used to serve as Region 1 Board of Directors in National Association of Deaf, President New Jersey Association of Deaf, Kappa Phi Theta Alumni Association and a few others.
